Ryan Johansen

The Nashville Predators announced that centre Ryan Johansen and defenceman Dan Hamhuis will miss Tuesday night’s game against the Minnesota Wild. Johansen will miss the game due to illness while Hamhuis sustained a lower-body injury.

Predators Without Ryan Johansen, Dan Hamhuis

Hamhuis only skated three shifts in Monday night’s loss to the Edmonton Oilers. It’s uncertain when he picked up his injury. Johansen is likely dealing with a late-winter bug.

So far this season, Johansen has scored 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points in 65 games. His possession numbers are 52.8 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 2.1.

Over his nine-year NHL career, Johansen has played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Predators. He has 143 goals and 298 assists for 441 career points in 657 career games. Columbus originally drafted him in the first round, fourth overall of the 2010 NHL Draft.

Hamhuis has eight assists so far this season in 60 games for the Predators. His possession numbers are 50.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -0.6.

Over his 13-year NHL career, Hamhuis has played for the Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Stars and the Predators. He has 59 goals and 297 assists for 356 points in 1,148 games. Nashville originally drafted him in the first round, 12th overall of the 2001 NHL Draft.

What This Means for the Future

Nashville recalled Yakov Trenin from AHL Milwaukee to fill the roster spot. Trenin is second in goals for the Admirals with 20 in just 32 of the team’s 59 games. He’s a tough customer that can handle is own in a physical game.

Johansen hasn’t put up the offensive numbers demanding of a number one pivot. Somehow, the Predators have charged up the standings and are in the mix for a wild card spot in the Western Conference. He was a big part of the JoFA line with Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson that had lots of success last season.
