The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that forward Trevor Moore is sidelined indefinitely with a concussion. He will not play in Friday’s game against the New Jersey Devils.

Trevor Moore Injured

Moore returned to the team in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. He played nine minutes, 45 seconds in the game. The 24-year-old was out for over a month with a shoulder injury and a concussion.

He was left out of the lineup in Monday’s 8-6 win over the Carolina Hurricanes for undisclosed reasons. The team will provide an update on Moore’s status after Friday night’s game against New Jersey.

So far this season, Moore has scored three goals and two assists for five points in 22 games. Moore also has four penalty minutes. His possession numbers are 49.9 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -4.2.

Over his two-year NHL career, Moore has played only for the Maple Leafs. He has five goals and eight assists for 13 career points in 47 career games. Toronto signed Moore as undrafted free agent after he had a standout NCAA career with the University of Denver.

Moore has split time the last couple of seasons with the AHL Toronto Marlies. He scored 23 goals in 46 games last season with the Leafs’ minor league club.

What This Means for the Future

Toronto called up defenceman Martin Marincin and forward Adam Brooks from the Marlies to fill the roster spot. Moore was trying to regain his roster spot as a bottom-six forward after his injury.

He was working his way up the lineup under former coach Mike Babcock and was part of Shedlon Keefe’s Calder Cup winning Marlies.

Auston Matthews told the Toronto Sun that Moore was missed.

“He’s great, he’s fast, tenacious, makes plays,” Matthews said. “It’s tough being out for as long as he was, but he’s worked hard to come back and get in shape. We’ve missed him 5-on-5 and special teams (penalty killing) as well.”
