Team USA Names Final Roster For 2020 World Junior Championship

Team USA has named their final 23-man roster for the 2020 World Junior Hockey Championship. The tournament begins on Thursday, December 26th in the Czech Republic. Team USA’s first game will be against their rival Team Canada. The team is coached by Scott Sandelin, head coach of the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs.

This group will want to build on the success of Team USA in recent years. The United States will want to extend its record streak of four straight years with a medal to five. Team USA is bringing back five returning members of the 2019 silver medal-winning team.

The Americans are loaded up front. The team is expected to be led by Montreal Canadiens prospect Cole Caufield, Los Angeles Kings prospect Alex Turcotte, Boston Bruins prospect John Beecher, and Philadelphia Flyers prospect Bobby Brink. The addition of Oliver Wahlstrom from the New York Islanders only gives this team even more depth on offence. In addition, Carolina Hurricanes prospect Jack Drury is also returning for the Americans. Having a winning culture on the team will only help them in this tournament.

The defence is led by two returning members from the 2019 silver medal team. New York Rangers prospect K’Andre Miller and Buffalo Sabres prospect Mattias Samuelsson.

Goaltender Spencer Knight returns looking to lead Team USA to the gold medal. The Florida Panthers prospect looks to lock to start every game in the tournament. He will be driving force behind whether or not the Americans medal or not.

The United States tough decisions to make prior to the tournament beginning. Anaheim Ducks prospect Trevor Janicke, Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alex Regula, and New York Islanders prospect Christian Krygier were amongst the final three cuts.

The 23 man roster is represented by 13 different states. In addition, 20 of the 23 players have played or currently playing college hockey.
