Victor Mete

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that defenceman Victor Mete will not travel with the team to Boston to play the Bruins on Sunday. Mete sustained a lower-body injury in Saturday’s matinee against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Canadiens Victor Mete Out for Sunday’s Game Against the Bruins

Mete collided with a Flyers player at the blue line in the second period of Saturday’s game and skated off gingerly off the ice. He did not return to the game and was later ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Bruins. Mete had logged 8:24 minutes of ice time before sustaining the injury. He also assisted on Joel Armia‘s goal to open the scoring for the Canadiens.

In 26 games this season, Mete has scored three goals and added five assists for eight points to go along with 10 penalty minutes.

Mete was originally drafted by the Canadiens in the fourth round, 100th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Tough Break for Mete and the Canadiens

As if the Canadiens needed any more bad news after suffering their seventh straight loss on Saturday. Now they will be without one of their top defencemen for a clash against their division rival. The Habs defence has been disastrous of late. The last thing they need is to lose Mete for any length of time. Mete has been enjoying a strong start to the season and has been switching back and forth with Ben Chiarot on the top pairing with Shea Weber recently.

It is unknown who will draw into the lineup against the Bruins between Brett Kulak and Mike Reilly. The two have split time in the club’s top six this season. Reilly has played 11 games registering four assists while Kulak has played 15 games and registered two assists. The Habs will most likely wait to make a decision on whether to recall anyone from the Laval Rocket until they know the severity of Mete’s injury. The club has already recalled Gustav Olofsson who played his first game as a Canadien on Saturday. He will most likely play again on Sunday.
