The Carolina Hurricanes have indicated that forward Micheal Ferland is day-to-day with an upper-body-injury. Ferland left the game against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday with an upper-body injury.

Micheal Ferland Injured
Micheal Ferland laid a shoulder-to-shoulder hit on Bruins’ Marcus Johansson. Johansson was helped off the ice, but Ferland continued to play.
Later in the period, Ferland got into a fight with Bruins forward David Backes. Ferland went to the locker room but came back to the bench after his major penalty. A few minutes later, it was announced that he would not return to the game.

The Hurricanes have not announced which play caused the injury and the extent of the injury.
So far this season, Ferland has scored 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points to go along with 40 penalty minutes in 56 games. His possession numbers are percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 54.5 and -0.8.
Over his four year NHL career, he has played for the Calgary Flames and the Hurricanes. He has 59 goals and 65 assists for 124 points to go along with 175 penalty minutes in 306 career games. He was originally drafted by the Flames in the fifth round, 133rd overall in the 2010 NHL Draft.
What This Means For the Future
Ferland started out the game on the second line with Jordan Staal and Teuvo Teravainen.
The Hurricanes currently sit in third place in the Metropolitan Division with just a one-point lead on the first wild-card team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. If they want to remain in a playoff spot, the Hurricanes as a whole will have to fill in the missing pieces where Ferland would be.
