Nashville Predators Austin Watson Arrested for Domestic Abuse

Nashville Predators forward Austin Watson was arrested over the weekend for domestic abuse according to the Frankin Police Department.

According to the Frankin Police Department Watson was arrested on Saturday night at 7:20 pm and has since been released on $4,000 bail. The police department said that they could not release any other further information because the investigation is still ongoing. Watson joined the AMEND together initiative in 2017 along with teammates Ryan Ellis, Mike Fisher and P.K. Subban. This initiative is aimed at ending domestic abuse against women.

The Predators have released the following statement: “We are still gathering facts and it is not appropriate for us to comment further at this time, but this is a matter that we are taking very seriously and will cooperate fully with the investigation by law enforcement,” the statement said. “The Nashville Predators have and will continue to stand side by side with AMEND in the fight to end violence against women.”

Austin Watson Career Stats

Watson has spent his entire four-year career with the Predators. He has scored 23 goals and added 24 assists for 47 career points in 216 NHL games. He was originally selected 18th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators.

Last season, Watson had a career year scoring 14 goals and five assists for 19 points in 76 games. He also added 123 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 46.4 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of -6.1 percent. Watson had five goals and three assists for eight points in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

What This Means for the Future

Moving forward the NHL and the Predators will make the decision on what to do with Watson once all the details come out. Watson has two years left on his three-year, $3.3 million dollar contract with an AAV of $1.1 million per year. He signed this contract in July 2017.
