Boston Bruins Torey Krug Out For Game 5

Torey Krug; NHL rumours

The Boston Bruins announced that defenseman Torey Krug is sidelined for at least Game 5 of its playoff series with the Tampa Bay Lightning with a lower-body injury.

Torey Krug Injured

The Livonia, Michigan native left the game when he crashed into the boards feet first in Boston’s 4-3 overtime loss to Tampa Bay in Game 4 on Friday night. Krug was battling Lightning forward Alex Killorn for the puck when the injury occurred.

So far this season, he scored 14 goals and 45 assists for 59 points in 76 games. He also added 36 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 54.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 1.1.

Over his 7-year NHL career, Krug has only played for the Boston Bruins. He has put up 52 goals and 183 assists for 183 career points in 235 career games. Krug has totaled three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 11 playoff games this postseason. He came to the Bruins as an undrafted free agent and was a standout for three seasons at Michigan State.

The Bruins will be without two regular defensemen as Krug and Brandon Carlo will be out. Carlo is out for the season after having surgery on a fractured ankle.

What This Means for the Future

Nick Holden will replace Krug on the blueline for Sunday’s pivotal game. Holden came over at the trade deadline from the New York Rangers. Holden has four goals and three assists in 73 games this season and has only played one playoff game his postseason.

Krug is one of the team’s better offensive defenseman and he will be missed. He’s made the most of his first postseason since 2014. The Bruins defense has made some key turnovers as they let the lead slip away at home.

There’s no word if Krug would be available for Game 6 if Boston staves off elimination. The Bruins will need Krug if they are to overturn the 3-1 deficit.
