WAR, GAR, and XPM

It’s one of the newest additions to the world of hockey statistics: WAR, also known as wins-above replacement. We talk to the man who created the stat to figure just how to determine a player’s WAR or GAR (goals above replacement). He also explains how to use it and where it’s best.

Dawson has exploded onto the hockey analytics scene. After months of teasing audiences with snippets of his WAR model, he’s finally released the full version, as well as a five-part explainer.
