Following the arrival of the new owners at Newcastle United, players all over Europe are being linked with a move to St James’ Park. This includes Italian side Atalanta and Robin Gosens, so much so that director Marino has spoken out on it all, as per Fabrizio Romano. Here is what Marino had to say: “Every day we read in the newspapers of Atalanta players in talks with Newcastle. It seems like a lottery. We’re waiting for Gosens to come back from injury.”
One player whose name is regularly in the headlines is German international Robin Gosens. The fullback-come-wingback has been out with injury in recent months and his absence has been felt amongst Gasperini’s ranks. They drew 0-0 with league leaders Inter Milan which, given they have a number of players sidelined, Gosens included, is a very good result.

Gosens Set for Stay
Gosens featured for Germany at the Euros last year in Joachim Low’s last hurrah, which ended unsuccessfully. That being said, along with Kai Havertz of Chelsea, Gosens was at the fore for Die Mannschaft. Despite being German, Gosens has never actually played professional football in his native country.
Gosens began at Vitesse but never made an appearance, being loaned out to Dordrecht for a year before he joined Heracles Almelo permanently. He left the Netherlands for Atalanta back in 2017 and hasn’t looked back since. Gasperini’s side are loved by most and they are a joy to watch. A lot of their key players are then moved on, such as Cristian Romero to Tottenham and Timothy Castagne to Leicester.
However, Gosens has remained a constant. The 27-year-old has remained in place and his stock is constantly on the rise. No matter how high his stock gets though, it appears Atalanta are intent on holding on to him going forward. Upon his return to injury, Atalanta will improve instantly because he is simply that effective.
It will be fascinating to see how Hansi Flick uses Gosens at the World Cup this winter, but regardless, Gosens will travel to Qatar as an Atalanta player it seems, and not a Newcastle United player.
