Both Lautaro Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni’s representatives have met with the Inter Milan board to discuss the duo’s current contract situation at the San Siro, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Talks Begin With Inter Milan Duo
Lautaro Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni’s Future’s Uncertain
Contract discussions between the agents of Lautaro Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni and the Inter Milan board have begun, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
The pair’s contracts are set to expire in the summer of 2023 and Inter have acted quickly to secure their signatures.
Alessandro Bastoni Set for Future at Inter
Romano stated the Bastoni discussions were positive and that the Italian centre-back is close to extending his contract for the next five years.
Bastoni joined the Nerazzurri from Atalanta as an 18-year-old in 2017 but spent the next two seasons back in Bergamo on loan.
After a season-long with Parma for the 2018/19 campaign, Bastoni has spent the last eighteen months as an integral part in Antonio Conte’s defence.
Across all competitions, Bastoni has made 54 appearances since the start of the 2019/20 campaign for the Milan based club.
Talks With Lautaro Martinez to Take Longer
Whilst still positive, the talks between Martinez and Inter are set to continue, with the Argentine taking time to mull over his future.
Martinez has been the subject of keen interest from top European clubs, with Barcelona once touted as favourites to sign the striker.
Martinez has stayed true to Inter since joining from Racing Club in 2018, netting 29 times in 80 appearances and reports suggest that the striker is comfortable in Milan.
Inter Building for Future With Contract Talks
Bastoni and Martinez represent integral pieces to Inter Milan’s title challenge and future prospects.
After finishing bottom in their Champions League group, Inter have been able to switch their attentions to challenging for two domestic trophies.
City rivals AC Milan currently lead the way in Serie A, with Inter trailing their neighbours by three points.
AC Milan will also stand in the way of any potential Coppa Italia success, with the two drawing each other in the competition’s quarter-final stage. The fixture is set to take place on Tuesday 26th January 2021.
With Antonio Conte eager to deliver the first Inter Milan trophy win since 2010/11, securing the happiness and future of Alessandro Bastoni and Lautaro Martinez will be crucial to any prospects.
