Manchester United had a pretty shaky start to the Ruben Amorim era as they were able to scratch out a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in his first game in charge. It looks like the coach is intent on strengthening the left-back position and the English giants are now being linked to AC Milan ace Theo Hernandez too.

United Closely Monitoring Hernandez’s Situation At AC Milan
Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has reported that Amorim has made it his “highest priority” to sign a new left-back in 2025 for the Red Devils. The journalist also adds that the search for the perfect full-back target is now in full swing as the club tries to identify the best possible player to operate in that wing-back role under the 39-year-old’s system.

Plettenberg reports that Hernandez is now also included in their left-back wishlist and that the French defender is being “closely monitored” by the Premier League heavyweights. United realize that the 27-year-old is contracted to AC Milan until the end of June, 2026. Normally, clubs think about potentially selling players heading into the final year of their contracts if the individuals show little desire to sign a new deal. Milan might be forced to hear offers for the defender in the summer of 2025 if he doesn’t sign an extension.
Who Else Is Interested In Hernandez?
Hernandez has been one of Milan’s best performers in recent seasons and proved his quality as an attacking wing-back, having 31 goals and 41 assists in 227 appearances for them so far. Earlier this year, it was also reported that Bayern Munich and Chelsea have a vested interest in signing him but neither were able to pry him away from the Italian giants in the summer window.

While the Red Devils seem quite eager to sign the France international, they are also keeping other options in mind. Alphonso Davies has been rumoured to be on their transfer wishlist, with his contract expiring a year before Hernandez’s. With that being said, Manchester United appear keen on signing a new reliable left-back next year after having to play the majority of 2024 with Diogo Dalot playing in that position because of major injury troubles sidelining Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw.
