The Egyptian forward produced a brilliant performance at St. Mary’s Stadium by scoring an inspired second-half hat-trick that helped his side come back from being 2-1 to win the game and increase their lead in the Premier League title race. However, Salah gave a rather worrying update on his future as his current contract is set to expire at the end of June, 2025.

After the match, the 32-year-old winger told CBS Sports: “Well, we are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay at the club. I’m probably more out than in. I’m not going to retire soon so I’m just playing, focusing on the season and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed but we will see.

“You know I have been in the club for many years, there is no club like this,” Salah said. “But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.  I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”

Three Key Liverpool Players With Doubts Over Their Futures

Salah has been in amazing form in the early part of the 2024/25 campaign for the Reds, with 12 goals and 10 assists so far in 18 appearances across all competitions. His heroics against Southampton took his tally to 10 goals and six assists already in only 12 Premier League matches.

The Egypt international. who broke the Premier League record for most goals scored in opening games of a campaign earlier this season, is one of the three vital Liverpool players who are facing questions around their future at Anfield. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract is also expiring next summer and he keeps getting strongly linked to a move to Real Madrid as there seems to be no movement around his contract extension negotiations.

Virgil van Dijk indicated recently that he’s started contract negotiations with Liverpool, but that has not been finalized yet. The Reds’ management have to work swiftly and smartly if they wish to keep these important first-team stars in Arne Slot’s squad for many years to come and squash speculation over their futures.
