How West Ham Have Lined up Recently

Prior to the match away at The City Ground, Alphonse Areola had started every Premier League match for West Ham this season, with one clean sheet in nine matches. That being said, due to a knock for the French international, Lukasz Fabianski started for Lopetegui’s side. The 39-year-old made three saves in the match yet only completed 20% of the long balls he played. The back four was altered to a back three for this match, with Konstantinos Mavropanos playing alongside Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman.

This is different from the usual back four of Emerson as left-back, Kilman and Todibo as the centre-back partnership and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as right-back. The last time the Hammers kept a clean sheet in all competitions came back in the Carabao Cup first round, where West Ham won 1-0 at home to AFC Bournemouth.

The midfield has also been consistent, with Lopetegui preferring two defensive midfielders. This has usually been between Edson Alvarez and Guido Rodriguez, with Tomas Soucek alternating between them both. That being said, due to Alvarez receiving a red card against Forest, Soucek will be expected to start alongside Rodriguez.

Mohammed Kudus has consistently played alongside Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen in attacking midfield, but due to his suspension, Crysencio Summerville took his place, scoring the opening goal of the match against Manchester United in a 2-1 last-minute victory. Michail Antonio is the man up front for West Ham who is preferred by Julen Lopetegui, with Niclas Fullkrug being out with an injury.

West Ham’s Recent Form

West Ham have been in a very mixed period of form, winning two of their last five Premier League matches, with wins coming against Ipswich Town and Manchester United. That being said, the Hammers have also failed to keep a clean sheet since mid-August in a 2-0 away win to Crystal Palace. Moreover, they have conceded three or more goals in two of their last three matches.

In their last match, West Ham slumped to a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, who currently sit 3rd in the Premier League after ten matches. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side came into this match after beating rivals Leicester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium. It was a match to forget for Lopetegui, who found his side dominated, conceding 19 shots and six on target. The Hammers failed to come close in the match, gaining an xG of 0.13, with most passes happening in their own half.

West Ham Injuries to Consider

The Hammers have two absences for their away trip to Everton tomorrow. Summer signing Fullkrug is still absent with an Achilles tendon injury, which he picked up on September 9. Speaking last week about the injury, Lopetegui stated “It’s a complicated injury, we are still waiting to recover him”. Areola is also out due to a slight knock.

Kudus is still out for the Hammers as he is still serving his suspension from the match against Tottenham, in which he was sent off in added time for violent conduct. He will be available on Monday, November 25, when they play Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Another player who will be missing due to suspension is Alvarez, who got sent off against Nottingham Forest after picking up two yellow cards at the City Ground.
