After a week of upheaval at Old Trafford with the departure of manager Erik ten Hag and the announcement that Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim will take his place on November 11, Manchester United will hope that change will be as good as a rest as they take on Enzo Maresca’s resurgent Chelsea side in a home Premier League fixture on Sunday (4.30PM Kick Off). In their first game of the post-Ten Hag era, the Red Devils put five past Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, a result that interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will hope to build on this weekend. Here is your Manchester United predicted lineup for the clash.
Manchester United Predicted Lineup vs Chelsea in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Second Game in Interim Charge
How Manchester United Have Lined-up Recently
Manchester United have lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation this season, with André Onana almost a permanent fixture in goal (Altay Bayindir made his first appearance of the season against Leicester).
In defence, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot have made up the first-choice back four this season, deputised by Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.

Midfield has been something of an issue of late, with Kobbie Mainoo’s injury meaning that Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen have been rotating for the deeper midfield berths, with Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford mainstays in the attacking midfield areas. Amad Diallo, Mason Mount (When fit) and Joshua Zirkzee are rotation options in those areas.
Rasmus Hojlund is the first-choice striker, with Zirkzee deputising there in case of injuries or when rotation is needed.
Manchester United Recent Form and Tactics
After their worst start to the season in Premier League history with just 11 points from nine games and three wins against Fulham, Southampton and Brentford, Manchester United have reacted by dispensing with Ten Hag in a bid to shake things up amongst a squad that badly needs it.
Whilst his final game definitely falls in the ‘Desperately unlucky’ category after a highly debatable penalty decision cost the Red Devils a point, it was a microcosm of the team’s so far in that they should have been out of sight by half time, playing some scintillating football and not taking their chances before losing control of the encounter and slipping to defeat.
Indeed, the Red Devils have taken just four of 27 big chances created this campaign, missing more than any other side in the league. With Van Nistelrooy in charge in the interim, fans will be hoping the team finds its way to goal on a more regular basis.
Manchester United Injuries to Consider
Antony (Ankle) and Mason Mount (Head) are both ruled out, with Tyrell Malacia an outside chance to make the bench after over a year out with a serious knee injury. Luke Shaw (Leg) is not yet ready to return from his own long injury absence, whilst Harry Maguire (Calf), Lény Yoro (Ankle) and Kobbie Mainoo (Thigh) are expected back later in the month.
