How Arsenal Have Lined up Recently

Mikel Arteta rotated his team somewhat for the mid-week Carabao Cup victory over Preston North End.

There was a debut for teenage goalkeeper Tommy Setford whilst Oleksandr Zinchenko made his first appearance since 31 August. However, 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri proved to be the star of the show.

In the Premier League, it’s been a case of Arteta picking whoever is available, especially in defensive positions.

Arsenal Recent Form and Tactics

This is the start of a pivotal week for Arsenal, with a trio of daunting away fixtures coming up.

The Gunners kick off five points adrift Premier League-leaders Manchester City, having lost to Bournemouth and only drawn with Liverpool, despite leading twice, in their last two games.

In mid-week, as alluded to earlier, Arteta’s team swatted aside Preston North End 3-0 in the EFL Cup.

Gabriel Jesus, the aforementioned Nwaneri and Kai Havertz all scored at Deepdale, setting up a quarter-final date with Crystal Palace.

Next up, following this trip to Tyneside, Arsenal will take on Inter at San Siro and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, making this a potentially season-defining eight-day period.

Arsenal Injuries to Consider

Arsenal continue to endure something of a defensive injury crisis.

Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney are all sidelined for certain.

Meanwhile, Benjamin White did not travel to Preston, with Arteta stating in Friday’s press conference that he has not trained this week, making him a doubt.

In better news, despite hobbling off against Liverpool, there is optimism that Gabriel’s suspected knee injury isn’t at all serious, which would be a major boost.

Alongside, William Saliba played the full 90 minutes in mid-week, having served his one-game suspension last weekend.

Elsewhere, Martin Ødegaard is not ready to feature just yet, with many supporters clamouring for Nwaneri to be handed a first Premier League start, although this is unlikely.
