This is a Chelsea predicted lineup for their Carabao Cup tie with Newcastle United. These two teams just met on Sunday with the Blues emerging as 2-1 winners, there will likely be some rotation from both sides but they’ll also need to keep some stronger players on the field in order to get the win. In last year’s Carabao Cup these two sides had to go to penalties in order to decide a winner, so things could be close once again.

How Chelsea Have Lined Up Recently
Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have been splitting goalkeeping duties. Injury returns and suspensions have caused some juggling in the back line with Reece James and Malo Gusto alternating between left-back and right-back, Renato Veiga being moved to a centre-back, Marc Cucurella playing on the left but as a back-up, Axel Disasi playing on the right, and Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo filling in where necessary for Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana.

Things have been similarly shaken up in midfield with Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia starting the last two league matches together, while Enzo Fernandez played alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the Europa Conference League. Cesare Casadei has also had a run out as the deepest-lying midfielder but hasn’t started since a 4-2 win over Gent.

The attacking areas were the most settled but even there we’ve seen some shakeups as Pedro Neto replaced Jadon Sancho on the left in the Premier League squad. Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix, and Christopher Nkunku usually start in cup and European matches. Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Nicholas Jackson are the main attackers for top games.
Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics
Enzo Maresca has remained true to his fluid 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 setup which at times looks more like a 3-3-4 or even a 3-2-4-1 depending on the opposition. In matches where they’re expected to dominate possession, the team pushes up and wins the ball back high, such as against Panathinaikos.

After a slight two-game rut where they drew to Nottingham Forest and lost to Liverpool, the Blues bounced back with a strong 4-1 win in Europe and then defeated the Magpies 2-1 at the weekend to get back to winning ways. Their defence is still a massive issue as they haven’t kept a clean sheet in over a month and continue to look prone at the back.
Chelsea Injuries to Consider
Developmental player Omari Kellyman appears to be the only player injured per Premierinjuries. Fofana looked to be in some pain at the weekend after going down in the first half but saw out the match, he will likely be rested here but could be used in an emergency.
Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs Newcastle
Nights like this are why Chelsea have so much depth in their squad, despite the tough opposition it is time to trust the likes of Felix, Nkunku, and Tosin. The only question will be on the right wing as Neto has played twice in the past week and should be rested here, Madueke might have to start but be replaced early.
