How Aston Villa Have Lined up Recently

Both John McGinn and Ezri Konsa returned to the team against Bologna on Tuesday following short injury lay-offs.

Konsa did so at right-back, but could shift into his usual position of centre-back this time, with Matty Cash therefore returning and Diego Carlos dropping out.

On the other side, Ian Maatsen was given a rare start, but Lucas Digne is likely to start this time.

Elsewhere, Tyrone Mings was back amongst the substitutes for the first time since rupturing his ACL on the opening day of last season, so he will be hoping to see some action for the first time in 14 months, if not here then perhaps in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Boubacar Kamara, who hadn’t played since February due to a knee injury of his own, came off the bench late on in mid-week, a major boost.

Jhon Durán started for only the second time this season against Bologna, his other start coming against Wycombe, marking the occasion with his seventh goal of the campaign.

This time however, the Colombian is expected to be back on the bench, with Ollie Watkins returning.

Can Aston Villa claim another victory?

On Tuesday night, the Claret and Blue Army made it three wins out of three in the Champions League, one of only two clubs, alongside Liverpool, still with perfect records.

Having already beaten BSC Young Boys and Bayern Munich, the Villans this time took care of Bologna, with McGinn and Jhon Durán the scorers.

In the Premier League meantime, Unai Emery’s team are flying-high in fourth, following last Saturday’s come-from-behind victory at Fulham, so will they win again?

Aston Villa Injuries to Consider

Jaden Philogene’s red card at Craven Cottage a week ago means he is suspended.

That aside, Villa appear to have a clean bill of health, with Konsa, McGinn, Mings, Kamara, Emi Buendía and Jacob Ramsey all available after various injuries.
