England have finally found their replacement for Gareth Southgate after he left the role following the end of Euro 2024. The Football Association (FA) have confirmed Thomas Tuchel to take over as the Three Lions’ next head coach.

When Will Tuchel Take Over The Role?
The German coach will not be taking the helm immediately. The FA confirmed that Interim head coach Lee Carsley will be overseeing England’s last two matches of the 2024 UEFA Nations League group stages in November (2024). Only after that will Tuchel take over as the England head coach.

In fact, his first matches as the Three Lions’ boss are likely to be as late as March 2025 in the knockout stages of the Nations League, given that England are able to qualify for the rounds. The Football Association have also confirmed that Anthony Barry, who worked as Tuchel’s assistant coach at Bayern Munich last season, will follow him in a similar role in the England set-up.
What Did Tuchel Say About England Appointment?
Tuchel is clearly delighted to take over what will be the first international team he will manage in his career. Speaking on his feelings on the appointment, he stated: “I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team. I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.
“Working closely with Anthony as my assistant coach, we will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud. I want to thank the FA, in particular Mark and John, for their trust and I am looking forward to starting our journey together.”

The German coach takes over the England job after having earned a lot of success in his managerial career so far. He guided Chelsea to the UEFA Champions League title in the 2020/21 season and helped PSG and Bayern Munich win league titles during his tenure. Tuchel, who was recently hailed as “fantastic” by Harry Kane, will aim to prove his prowess on the international stage by helping England dominate the international scene under him with an eye on 2026 FIFA World Cup success.
