‘Already Gathering Information’: Man Utd Enter Tough Race To Sign 43 G/A Bundesliga Full-Back

How Manuel Ugarte Fixes Manchester United's Biggest Problem

Manchester United have experienced a number of issues at the beginning of their 2024/25 season and one of them is the lack of a natural left-back, hampering their movement on that left flank. It now looks like they have earmarked a potential target in Alphonso Davies to improve that area next season.

Manchester United Enter Alphonso Davies Transfer Race

How Could United Sign Davies?

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils have shown an interest in the Canadian defender. He adds that the Bayern Munich full-back is one of their desired transfer targets for the 2025 summer transfer target. The journalist further claims that they are “already gathering information” about the 23-year-old’s possible availability next summer, but that they also don’t consider their chances of buying him to be that high.

That is because Real Madrid are strongly linked to move for him as a free agent next summer. Plettenberg states that as of this moment, Davies looks like he could leave the Bavarians for free once his contract expires at the end of June, 2025.

It’s also stated that he’s currently not holding any contract extension talks with the German heavyweights but that Bayern are open to the prospect of restarting contract negotiations with him The journalist adds that Real Madrid remains the top favourite to sign the full-back in the 2025 summer window if he doesn’t extend his contract.

Why Are United Looking Into Davies Signing?

There is a reason why the Red Devils are eager to sign a new left-back next summer. They have not been able to play a natural left-back for any competitive matches so far this season, with Diogo Dalot being slotted into that role instead. Luke Shaw has been injured for many months, and his exact return date is still up in the air, while Tyrell Malacia’s last appearance was way back in the 2022/23 season.

Davies is definitely a solid player to target for Erik ten Hag’s side knowing his experience and quality. He has 11 goals and 32 assists in 205 appearances in his Bayern Munich career, winning multiple Bundesliga titles as well as the UEFA Champions League trophy with them.

With that being said, beating Real Madrid to his signing looks a tough ask for United right now and they’ll have to do something major to convince the 23-year-old to join them instead.
