Liverpool Face Huge Setback as 'Exceptional' Star Ruled Out for Major Period With Fresh Injury: Alisson Becker Injury

Liverpool enter the October international break at the top of the 2024/25 Premier League table after their hard-fought 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. However, one major blow they suffered in that game was Alisson Becker’s injury, and the worst fears about the Brazilian have come true.

Liverpool Set to Suffer Alisson Becker Injury for Many Weeks

What Happened to Alisson?

The Brazilian goalkeeper had a great game against the London side at the weekend, making a string of important saves to keep his side in the game. However, in the second half the 32-year-old seemingly injured his hamstring and had to be taken off, being replaced by debutant Vítězslav Jaroš in goal.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported that test results have confirmed that Alisson suffered a nasty hamstring injury, and that will keep him out of action for six weeks. This also means that the goalkeeper will not be able to feature for the Reds in their matches after the October international break and can only return to action until after the November international break. This also matches the fears that Arne Slot had shown towards Alisson’s injury after the Palace game when he had told the BBC: “With Alisson it is clear he will be out for maybe a few weeks.”

How Many Games Will Alisson Miss Due to His Injury?

Alisson will not only miss Brazil’s matches in the ongoing international break, but he’s set to be unavailable for a string of important matches for Liverpool over the next six weeks. He will be forced to sit out in the next Premier League game against Chelsea (October 20) and the trip to Arsenal (October 27) after that. He’ll also be missing UEFA Champions League games against RB Leipzig (October 23) and Bayer Leverkusen (November 5) as well as a game against Aston Villa on November 9.

Slot is likely to play Caoimhin Kelleher in Alisson’s place and hope that the Republic of Ireland goalkeeper can replicate his form from last season. Alisson, who was hailed as “exceptional” by Jurgen Klopp last season, has played a key role in helping the Reds’ impressive start to the 2024/25 campaign by keeping five clean sheets in his eight appearances so far across all competitions.
