How Manchester United Have Lined-up Recently

André Onana is the Red Devils’ undisputed number 1, with the usual back line consisting of Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot. In midfield, Manuel Ugarte has started the previous two games, with Christian Eriksen and Kobbie Mainoo rotating alongside him. In attacking midfield, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford have started recent fixtures as number ten and left winger respectively, with Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho rotating on the right. Joshua Zirkzee has been playing as a number nine in Rasmus Hojlund’s absence.

Manchester United Recent Form and Tactics

Whilst there seems to be something of a plan about Manchester United this season, the results at the start of the campaign have been poor, with the team having taken just seven points out of a possible 18 in the league. Three defeats out of six have set alarm bells ringing amongst fans, some of whom are steadfast in their belief that Erik ten Hag is not the right man to take the team forward.

Although there have been bright sparks in the team’s attacking play and the defence has looked solid at times, gaping holes in the middle of the park have cost United this season, Tottenham and Liverpool ruthlessly exploited the space in between the lines in big wins at Old Trafford, leading to the conclusion that further recruitment will be required in this area if Ten Hag wants to take the team forward.

Manchester United Injuries to Consider

Mason Mount (Head) and Kobbie Mainoo (Unknown) are fresh injury doubts for the Red Devils, with the former having been definitively ruled out of Thursday’s tie as a precaution. The latter only returned to training on Wednesday. Luke Shaw (Calf) is ruled out until at least mid-October, with fellow left-back Tyrell Malacia (Knee) and defender Harry Maguire (Unknown) also targeting returns after the international break. Summer signing Lény Yoro (Ankle) is predicted to be out until mid-November.
