'To Be Assessed': Liverpool Face Fresh Injury Blow as 'Brilliant' Forward Misses Training: Diogo Jota

Liverpool have had the dream start to their 2024/25 season under new head coach Arne Slot as they sit atop of the Premier League table after six matches. They’re in impressive form heading into the Champions League clash against Bologna, but faced an injury issue with forward Diogo Jota before the game.

What Happened To Jota?

The Athletic’s James Pearce has reported that the Portuguese forward missed the Reds’ recent training session ahead of their upcoming European clash against Serie A side Bologna on Wednesday (2 October). He adds that Jota was made to sit out the training session as precaution after he was dealt a heavy blow to his foot in his side’s recent 2-1 win over Wolves in the Premier League.

Pearce also states that Jota will continue “to be assessed” by Liverpool’s medical staff before the Champions League outing. He probably faces an uphill task to be fully fit for the game, but it doesn’t appear that the Portuguese star has suffered anything serious. It was also added that Darwin Nunez, who was absent from the Reds’ last game due to illness, was spotted in training before the Bologna game. Summer signing Federico Chiesa, however, was another absentee.

How Important Has Jota Been for Liverpool This Season?

The 27-year-old forward has become quite an important player in the Liverpool squad under Slot, featuring in seven of their eight matches across all competitions so far. He has started in six of those games and has scored three goals as well as providing two assists.

He was instrumental in helping Liverpool get their gritty 2-1 win over Wolves in their last Premier League clash, providing an assist for Ibrahima Konate’s goal and winning the penalty that was converted by Mohamed Salah. The 27-year-old, who was hailed as “brilliant” after scoring in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Burnley last season, will look to recover from his foot injury soon to continue his impressive work for the Reds.
