Arsenal Predicted Lineup Vs Paris Saint-Germain for Heavyweight Champions League Clash

Arsenal Predicted Lineup Vs Paris Saint-Germain for Heavyweight Champions League Clash

After commencing their Champions League campaign by earning a point against Atalanta in Bergamo, Arsenal will be aiming to earn all three when Paris Saint-Germain visit North London, having not lost any of their four previous meetings with the serial French champions. Here is our Arsenal predicted lineup.

Arsenal Predicted Lineup Vs Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League

How Arsenal Have Lined up Recently

With, potentially, as many as six first-team players out injured, Mikel Arteta currently has limited options, hence why his team selection has been very consistent this month, setting aside the EFL Cup victory over Bolton Wanderers last mid-week.

With Benjamin White not fit enough to feature, Jurriën Timber has started the last two Premier League games at right-back, while Riccardo Calafiori has therefore started over on the left.

Further forward, in Martin Ødegaard’s continued absence, rather than trying to directly fill the rather large void vacated by the Norwegian playmaker, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz operate in tandem, with one dropping deep while the other becomes the focal point.

Arsenal Recent Form and Tactics

Arsenal remain unbeaten across all competitions this season, but came extremely close to a catastrophic result at the weekend when Leicester City visited North London.

At half time, the Gunners were 2-0 up and cruising, with Gabriel Martinelli ending his 208-day wait for a goal, before Trossard doubled their advantage on the cusp of the interval, at which point not a single soul inside the stadium could have forecasted what was to come.

Having barely got out their half in the opening 45, the Foxes pulled one back mere seconds after half time, before James Justin struck again, this time hitting a Zinedine Zidane-esque volley, and the ground was stunned into silence.

It remained 2-2 deep into stoppage time until, following Arsenal’s 17th corner of the afternoon, Trossard’s volley was deflected into the net by Wilfred Ndidi. Just minutes later, the ball ricocheted in off Havertz’s thigh, and the goal was awarded following VAR review to rubber stamp a 4-2 victory that was far from straightforward.

With Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, who just about beat Girona in their Champions League opener a fortnight ago, up next, the Gunners will need to raise their level of performance, if they’re to pick up three points from this glamour fixture.

Arsenal Injuries to Consider

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ødegaard all remain sidelined, while Mikel Merino is eagerly awaiting his Arsenal debut, which Arteta has said is ‘soon’, although is unlikely to come just yet.

Meantime, White has been carrying a knock. He did not start at the Etihad, nor featured in the matchday squad at all against Bolton or Leicester, so it’s unknown if he’ll be able to return in time for this clash, although Timber is a more than able deputy.

Thomas Partey has started all seven Premier League and Champions League fixtures to date and, while he’s fit for now, the Ghanian will continue to get the nod over Jorginho at the base of midfield.

Lastly, having picked up an injury against Manchester City, David Raya was a doubt last weekend, so much so that 16-year-old Jack Porter had deputised in the Carabao Cup, but the Spaniard was passed fit, so will continue to don the gloves.
