Newcastle Predicted Lineup Vs Manchester City: Isak Injury Doubt

Liverpool and newcastle players watch on as a shot heads towards goal

Newcastle continue their Premier League season as they host Manchester City this Saturday, September 28 at 12:30 PM BST. The Magpies will hope to put last week’s setback behind them with a big result. Here is our Newcastle predicted lineup.

Newcastle Predicted Lineup as They Host Manchester City

How Newcastle Have Lined Up Recently

Newcastle made four changes in their 3-1 loss against Fulham last weekend, including bringing back Harvey Barnes. Joe Willock also returned from injury, but Eddie Howe has suggested that he might have rushed the Englishman back too soon.

Lloyd Kelly got the nod over Lewis Hall as the two alternate at left-back. Kelly has started in three of the five league matches so far.

Alexander Isak was a doubt last week after he suffered an eye injury but did start. After Newcastle’s EFL Cup clash with AFC Wimbledon was postponed, Howe has a fresh squad available.

Newcastle’s Recent Form and Tactics

The Magpies’ unbeaten start to the season finally ended last weekend with their loss to Fulham. Unlike most other sides, including CIty, they have had a week’s rest between matches.

They lie sixth in the table, three points off the top. However, the top half of the table is very congested and only five matches have been played, so it is tricky to make any tangible conclusions.

Newcastle have arguably been lucky to take ten points from five matches. They were second-best against Southampton and Tottenham but came away with three points on both occasions.

Howe might opt for a more defensive-minded midfield trio against City, who expect to dominate possession.

Newcastle Injuries and Suspensions to Consider

Alexander Isak is a doubt again, this time due to a toe injury. He has not trained this week and Newcastle will make a decision closer to the match.

Matt Targett is unavailable as he has eczema. Callum Wilson is out until after the international break due to a back injury.

Jamal Lascelles, Sven Botman and Lewis Miley are all out with long-term injuries. The first two are out until 2025, but Miley could return in October.
