‘We Don’t Have an Idea’: Chelsea Make Worrying Update on ‘Complete’ Star’s Injury Situation

How Enzo Maresca Has Revolutionised Chelsea's 'Broken' Star Nicolas Jackson

Chelsea are looking to get some winning momentum under their belt when they play a tricky clash against West Ham United in what will be the first away London derby of the Enzo Maresca era. However, the manager had some gutting news when it comes to the situation of captain Reece James and his injury.

Chelsea Deliver New Injury Update on Reece James

What Is the Current Situation?

The 24-year-old full-back picked up a hamstring injury in training at the beginning of the 2024/25 season and has missed all the Premier League matches so far. It seems that he’s taking quite a bit of time and precaution in recovering from the issue after being plagued with injury troubles over the last few years.

Maresca was asked to give an update on when James can be expected to make a return to action for the Blues and he responded: “The most important thing for him and any injury is that they come back when they’re 100 per cent fit. Reece is still out. We don’t have an idea at the moment [when he’ll be back]. We hope we can find the right solution and have him back as soon as possible.”

Which Other Chelsea Players Are Struggling With Injuries?

Unfortunately for the London heavyweights, James is not the only full-back dealing with problems right now. Maresca also confirmed that Malo Gusto has not been able to recover from his injury yet and is out of contention for the upcoming game against West Ham. However, midfielders Enzo Fernandez and summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall should be ready to feature in the upcoming derby.

Chelsea fans can’t really be faulted for being frustrated over the injury saga of James over the last year or so. The Englishman, who became club captain earlier this summer, missed 38 matches for the Blues across all competitions last season. James’ potential and qualities are well known, with Manchester City defender Kyle Walker even hailing him as the “most complete” right-back around, but his fitness issues keep holding back from becoming one of the driving forces of this Chelsea team.
