‘Preparing The Process’: Man Utd Aim To Push Contract Talks To Extend £20K-P/W ‘Fabulous’ Star’s Deal

Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai fight for the ball with Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo.

Manchester United have had a shaky start to the 2024/25 season, but things have started to look upward after they won their last two games in all competitions. The Red Devils have some quality young players in their squad and it looks like they’re going to hold onto Kobbie Mainoo for a particularly long time.

Man Utd Preparing To Advance On New Kobbie Mainoo Contract

What Are United’s Plans For Mainoo’s Contract?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that United are now looking to advance on talks with the young midfielder’s representatives over a new deal. He claims that it’s still an internal process for the club and that they are still “preparing the process” for the negotiations.

The journalist adds that this means they are still deciding the salary they’d be willing to offer Mainoo for his new deal and the possible bonuses to be inserted into the deal. It’s also claimed that the club’s hierarchy wants to give him a “fantastic” contract to make him feel like one of the most important players in the squad.

Romano also states that Mainoo is totally happy with his role at United and has the full trust of manager Erik ten Hag. Everyone at the club wants the youngster to be the face of their new project and that is why they’re hurrying progress on a new deal.

When Does Mainoo’s Contract Expire?

The 19-year-old midfielder enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough season in the 2023/24 campaign for the Red Devils, becoming a mainstay in the starting XI and also becoming a key member of the England national team and representing them at Euro 2024.

Mainoo’s current contract doesn’t expire before June 30, 2027, but the Red Devils still seem to be quite eager to hand him a new and improved deal as soon as possible.

Mainoo is reportedly on a meagre £20,000-a-week salary in the United squad, making him one of the lowest-paid players in the senior team too. That is probably why the decision-makers are so determined to give him a more lucrative contract to reward him for his heroics. The 19-year-old, who was hailed as “fabulous” by ex-England manager Gareth Southgate earlier this year, has made four appearances for his club so far this season.
