Arteta delivered an update on the current situation of his captain ahead of the Champions League encounter, as he revealed: “After a recent scan, he has some damage on one of the ligaments in the ankle. We are going to miss him. It is something quite significant so we are going to lose him for a while. Hopefully not months”.

“He’s our captain. He’s been one of the biggest and best players in our team. Our identity is very linked to how he plays and behaves. It’s a big test for the team to see how able we are to show a different face”.

Which Matches Could Odegaard Miss Out On?

This update seems to indicate that Odegaard is definitely going to miss Arsenal’s next few matches across all competitions before the October international break. The Norwegian midfielder looks to be guaranteed to miss not only the game against Atalanta, but the crucial visit to Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend.

But if Odegaard can’t recover in time and is forced to miss multiple months of actions, then he could end up missing multiple Champions League games against the likes of PSG, Shakhtar Donetsk and Inter Milan. The Norwegian hasn’t been able to get a goal contribution in his three appearances for Arsenal so far this season after enjoying a prolific 2023-24 season, in which he was hailed for an “electric” performance in the 5-0 thrashing of Chelsea and had 18 goal contributions (eight goals, 10 assists) in 35 appearances.
