Manchester United will look to begin their 2024/25 Carabao Cup campaign on a high note when they host Barnsley at Old Trafford in the third-round clash. Erik ten Hag is likely to make changes to this side for the game and was questioned on the situation of Brazilian winger Antony before it.
Manchester United Send Warning To Antony
What Did Ten Hag Say About Antony
The Dutch coach green-lit the expensive move for Antony in 2022 but has seen the winger fail to deliver on expectations and fall down the pecking order in his squad. Antony is mostly a bench-warmer in the team right now and despite knowing his biggest strengths and weaknesses, Ten Hag still can’t seem to get the best out of him.

The Red Devils manager was asked about the future of the Brazilian and if he can be expected to start against Barnsley. He replied: “Antony has to bounce back and he has the ability to do it. If he is doing the right things he can make competition with the young talents we have. Of course Antony is impatient, he wants to play and is fighting to play.
“We have Amad and Garnacho who have been very effective, Rashford scoring at the weekend (against Southampton). Antony has to earn the right in training. The others are doing well so he has to get over them.”
How Has Antony Performed This Season?
The 24-year-old had quite the summer transfer window in which he was actually linked with a potential exit but refused to move away from Old Trafford, as he’s determined to make it big at the club. Antony has had a tough start to the 2024/25 campaign, not being able to start any of their first four Premier League matches and only getting one minute of playing time in total.

This is mostly because of his disappointing 2023/24 season in which the winger had two goal contributions (one goal, one assist) across 29 Premier League games. The 24-year-old faces competition for that right-wing role from Amad Diallo, who has already scored and assisted one goal apiece in the four league games, and Alejandro Garnacho.
