Brought in to help reinforce Real Madrid’s already weakened side, Brahim Díaz has become the latest name on the La Liga champions’ injury list. The Moroccan international was taken off in the twenty-fifth minute of Madrid’s 2-0 away win over Real Sociedad. He has enjoyed a stellar 2024 to date, but this setback could see him miss the majority of what remains of the year.

As Fabrizio Romano reports on “X”, the “exciting” forward will be out for “at least 8 weeks” which would make him unavailable for this month’s derby vs Atlético Madrid and the first Clásico of the season at the end of October, as Real will take “no risks”. Due to improved performances for his club and his nationality switch, Brahim has had an increase in matches played this calendar year. He has featured in 37 competitive matches in 2024, across five different competitions. Naturally, this workload at the highest level has taken its toll on the 25-year-old.

Something More Going on at the Bernabéu?

Given the rate that which players are dropping out, fans can be forgiven for asking questions about what exactly is going on at their club. Manager Carlo Ancelotti will no doubt be urgently meeting with first-team fitness coach Antonio Pintus to find solutions to this problem. He is a coach who is known for his unorthodox training methods, to which some players react better than others.

The only saving grace that Real Madrid can hang on to, is that (so far) none of these injuries have been as bad as some they had to deal with last season. Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao and David Alaba (still out) all suffered injuries that effectively ended their seasons. Madridistas all over the world will be hoping that this season’s situation doesn’t get even worse than it already is.
