Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Harris Award and Another Home Win

Harris Nominated for Player of the Month

On Thursday, Oxford striker Mark Harris was nominated for the Championship Player of the Month award for August.

The 25-year-old netted four goals in four league games, including a goal of the season contender away at Blackburn.

The striker, who won the League One Player of the Month back in April, was up against Sunderland defender Luke O’Nien, Millwall striker Duncan Watmore and West Brom forward Josh Maja.

The two strikers also sit on four goals while O’Nien has scored twice and kept three clean sheets for the Black Cats.

Youngster Gets Second Loan Spell

Aidan Elliott-Wheeler returned from his short loan spell with neighbours Oxford City before making a similar switch to Salisbury.

The 18-year-old joined the National League South side on a one-month loan deal.

Harris Award

On Friday, Oxford striker Mark Harris was confirmed as the Championship Player of the Month for August.

Speaking on his award, he said: “It’s a really nice award. We have started the season off well as a team and as an individual, I have done the same.

“Awards like this are always great, but it’s all about the team. I am going into every game full of confidence with the team playing well and hopefully, I can keep putting the goals away.”

Oxford United See off the Potters

Oxford kept their winning home record intact with a 1-0 victory over Stoke.

After a fairly even first half between the two sides, Oxford opened the scoring just minutes after the restart when Idris El Mizouni burst into the box to slot home his first U’s goal.

Tyler Goodrham and Mark Harris both tested the visiting goalkeeper but Des Buckingham’s side had to settle for the one goal at Grenoble Road.
