With Gameweek Four kicking off tomorrow, here are three defenders that should be taken into consideration for teams this weekend.
Three Defenders That Should Be in the Running for Gameweek Four FPL Squads
Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool – £7.0 Million
Liverpool players should be the go-to picks this weekend, with the Reds squad looking imperious at the start of the Arne Slot era. Three games played, three won, seven scored, zero conceded, with the Dutchman just the third manager to claim three victories and three clean sheets in his opening trio of league matches in England after Jose Mourinho (in 2004/05 with Chelsea) and the late Sven-Goran Eriksson (in 2007/08 with Manchester City).

With none conceded so far, Trent Alexander-Arnold has to be an option this weekend. Not only does the fullback have a chance of a clean sheet at home to Nottingham Forest, but the opportunity for some goal contributions is highly likely. Any Reds defender would be a good pick for Gameweek Four, but Trent’s eye for a pass and on-the-ball ability is second to none, and with 20 points accumulated so far this campaign, that number will surely rise this weekend.
Ruben Dias – Manchester City – £5.5 Million
One of the more solid defensive options you’ll find in FPL, Ruben Dias is a very affordable mid-range price choice. Now one of the pillars of the City defence under Pep Guardiola, many would like to hope that he is now one of the players free from the dreaded “Pep Roulette” chopping block, something that has stifled several FPL managers over the years.

The Portuguese centre-back has started all three league matches so far, playing every minute available, and with 6th-placed Brentford visiting the Etihad tomorrow, Guardiola will want his best players out on the pitch tomorrow and Dias should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Noussair Mazraoui – Manchester United – £4.5 Million
New Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui has had a bright start to life at Old Trafford since signing from Ajax this offseason. The Moroccan international has slotted straight into the vacant right back position – left by Aaron Wan-Bissaka who departed for West Ham United this summer – and has played 261 minutes out of a possible 270 for Erik ten Hag’s side in the league.
After a brilliant debut against Fulham in Gameweek One where he kept a clean sheet, Mazraoui’s gone on to pick up a healthy double-digit points total of 13, making him the highest-scoring United defender so far this campaign. As he and his teammates prepare for the challenge of Southampton, the fullback could be a tidy pick-up at just £4.5 million with the Saints struggling in front of goal so far, scoring just once in their first three matches.
