Arsenal are hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they face rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their return to action after the September international break. However, they have now faced another injury scare after captain Martin Odegaard picked up a knock in international duty.
Arsenal Captain Martin Odegaard Suffers Injury Scare
What Happened to Odegaard?
The Gunners’ skipper was involved in Norway’s 2-1 win over Austria in the UEFA Nations League and ended up picking up a nasty ankle injury during the game. His ankle seemed to turn the wrong way, causing the 25-year-old to be substituted and go off the pitch in a lot of pain.

After the game, Odegaard decided to leave the Norway national team camp and return to London to be assessed on his injury by the Arsenal club doctors. He was also pictured walking with the help of crutches and does not seem to be in an ideal shape right now. Norwegian head coach Stale Solbakken also spoke about the midfielder’s injury, saying: “It looked bad in the dressing room too. He didn’t have the nerve to continue. It is not certain that Arteta will call me tonight and praise me.”

The Norwegian national team doctor Ola Sand spoke about the potential extent of Odegaard’s injury following the result too, stating: “He got a small ankle sprain. We will see, maybe we use ultrasound to look at it.”
How Many Injury Issues Are Arsenal Suffering?
Odegaard becomes the latest Arsenal player to be on the shelf with an injury, with the Gunners seeing quite a few players pick up knocks early into the campaign. New signing Mikel Merino is currently out of action after sustaining a freak injury in Arsenal’s training session. Riccardo Calafiori picked up a knock during the international break in action for Italy and his fitness is under question. Gabriel Jesus also picked up an injury in the early part of the campaign, while defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is still recovering.

The absence of Odegaard could be really gutting for Mikel Arteta’s side against Tottenham. The 25-year-old, who was hailed as “amazing” by Erling Haaland last season, is yet to deliver a goal contribution in the 2024/25 campaign for Arsenal. However, he remains their driving force in the attack after having 18 goal contributions (eight goals, 10 assists) in 35 Premier League appearances last season.
