How Bayern Munich Have Lined Up Recently

Bayern started the match against Wolfsburg as follows: Manuel Neuer was in goal. Sacha Boey and Alphonso Davies took up their positions on the flanks of the back four. Meanwhile, Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano played in the centre of the defence.

Joshua Kimmich joined Aleksandar Pavlovic in the holding midfield positions, as Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane made up the front four.

That means that coach Vincent Kompany changed the lineup in five positions, compared to the cup tie with Ulm, which was the first competitive game of the new season. Boey and Davies came into the back four, for Josip Stanisic and Raphael Guerreirro.

Meanwhile, Gnabry moved to the left-wing position previously occupied by Mathys Tel and Olise took his place on the right. Finally, Kane replaced Thomas Müller up front.

Bayern Munich Recent Form and Tactics

The Bavarians have so far won their first two competitive fixtures of this term. Yet, the game against Wolfsburg saw them fall back into bad defensive habits of last season. Kim in particular is still far away from the level he reached when winning Serie A with Napoli.
He has still not adjusted to life in Bavaria and patience with him is running low for fans and club officials alike.

Tactically, the key against a team like Freiburg will be dealing with the speed and skill of the likes of Vincenzo Grifo and Ritsu Doan as VfB Stuttgart found out last week. The 4-3-2-1 setup will no doubt be tested against such opposition.

Bayern Munich Injuries to Consider

Stanisic, Hiroki Ito, and backup keeper Daniel Peretz all remain out for sure, as Leroy Sané’s participation is doubtful.
