It now appears the 25-year-old will be departing Stamford Bridge on loan. Romano reports that the English defender is set to undergo a medical before moving to Selhurst Park for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

It’s also been confirmed by The Athletic that the deal will be for a straight loan, with no obligation to buy.

His Time at Chelsea

Early in Chalobah’s career, he experienced loan spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and French team Lorient, proving his ability to play in several positions in defence and proving adept in midfield.

Chalobah got his big break at Chelsea in 2021 under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel who selected the Chelsea academy graduate to play against Villarreal in the 2021 UEFA Super Cup win, before playing and scoring on his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace.

Chalobah was a regular starter under Graham Potter and a vital presence in the difficult 2nd spell as Manager for Frank Lampard. Injury problems kept the English under-21 international out from August to February of the 2023-24 campaign. Following his return under Pochettino, Chelsea only lost one of the 13 games he started between February and May. He was a player seen embracing a leadership role at Stamford Bride last season, but it now seems under the new manager his future lies elsewhere.
