Manchester United sustained their first loss of the 2024/25 Premier League season with a 2-1 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion on August 24. It now appears that they have some bad news, that Mason Mount sustained an injury.

Mount played for 45 minutes against Brighton before being replaced by summer signing Joshua Zirkzee. It’s now been confirmed by Erik ten Hag that the Englishman sustained a knock and had to be taken off for his own good.

The Dutch manager revealed after the loss to Brighton: “It was forced. He mentioned an issue and I don’t want to take the risk with him. I don’t know how much of a worry it is, I can’t say at this moment. But I think, when we have the good bench, and we can bring in Zirkzee, then don’t hesitate. Bring Mount off and bring [on] a player who can have an impact. It was a decision, he had some problems and he had an issue. We know the history of Mason, so we took him out.”
New Injury Adds To Man Utd Woes
The Red Devils will hope that Mount’s injury is not a serious one and that he can be return in time for their upcoming clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford on September 1. The 25-year-old midfielder was tormented with injury issues throughout his debut campaign at Old Trafford after joining from Chelsea in 2023 and missed 27 matches in the 2023/24 campaign.

Ten Hag is already missing a number of key players in his squad due to injury issues. Luke Shaw suffered a setback in pre-season training that will force him to miss the first few matches of the 2024/25 Premier League season. Rasmus Hojlund and summer signing Leny Yoro are also on the treatment table with injury issues. Tyrell Malacia is a long-term injury absentee for United.
