Agreement Close: Liverpool Finalizing Deal To Sign ‘Outstanding’ Talent As First Summer Signing

Liverpool Loan Report: Youngster Impresses in First Start for New Club

Liverpool have lagged behind in the 2024 summer transfer window behind all the Premier League sides and are the only team from the English top division yet to actually sign a new player during the window. But it now looks like they’re finally close to bringing in goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool In Final Steps To Confirm Giorgi Mamardashvili Signing From Valencia

How Much Will Liverpool Pay For Mamardashvili?

The Reds are now on the verge of reaching a verbal agreement to sign the Georgian goalkeeper from the La Liga club, claims Fabrizio Romano. The journalist reports that only a few details need to be ironed out between the two parties for this deal to be finalized before the end of the summer window.

Romano states that final steps still need to be taken to agree on the payment terms and how the deal will be structured. It’s stated that Liverpool are going to pay a fee of around £29.7 million to sign the goalkeeper, but that he is going to stay on loan at Valencia for the 2024/25 season before arriving at Anfield next year. That means he won’t be competing for the number one spot in Arne Slot’s team with Alisson this year and instead be looking to continue his development in Spain.

Why Are Liverpool Pushing For Mamardashvili Signing?

Liverpool have surprisingly opted to make a goalkeeper their first signing of the 2024 summer window, but they clearly have future intentions in mind when it comes to this deal. Alisson, current 31, is eight years older than the Georgian goalkeeper and the Reds might be worried that the Brazilian will be past his prime in the next few years. That is probably why the 23-year-old Mamardashvili is being eyed to compete with Alisson and keep him on his toes.

The Georgian stopper actually kept 13 clean sheets in 37 La Liga appearances last season, five more than what Alisson managed in the 2023/24 Premier League. Mamardashvili also impressed in Euro 2024 to help Georgia make it to the knockout stages and has recently been hailed as an “outstanding talent” by ex-England goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
