Liverpool Make Transfer Decision On 'Super Important' Star After Snub From Ipswich Town Clash - Joe Gomez Future

Liverpool have been super slow in the 2024 summer transfer window and remains the only Premier League club yet to sign a single player. It appears that they are now looking into the potential sale of Joe Gomez after he was left out of the matchday squad against Ipswich Town.

What Is Joe Gomez’s Stance On Liverpool Future?

The English defender was a surprising absentee from the Reds squad in their first match of the 2024/25 Premier League season against Ipswich. It appears that he doesn’t have any future at Anfield and is not considered a key player by new manager Arne Slot.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Gomez is looking at his transfer options heading into the final two weeks of the summer transfer window. This comes after he has reportedly attracted interest from Newcastle United over a potential move. It was also reported that the Reds discussed the possibility of selling the Englishman to their fellow Premier League side earlier in the window, but an agreement could not be reached. The 24-year-old remains in an awkward position at Anfield as he needs to find the ideal club to move to and ensure that the team which wants to sign him can also arrange an agreement with Liverpool.

What Went Wrong For Gomez At Liverpool?

Despite being a key squad player under Jurgen Klopp in the last few years, it seems like Gomez has lost his importance in the Reds squad after a change in management. New boss Arne Slot does not seem to regard him that highly and doesn’t feel like the Englishman can be a perfect fit for his new system.

Gomez made 51 appearances for Liverpool last season, playing as a right-back, left-back and in his natural centre-back role. He was hailed as a “super important” player by Klopp, but it doesn’t seem like that still applies under Slot’s management. The Reds have sold winger Fabio Carvalho to Brentford this summer and might be looking to make a decent profit on selling their youth academy defender. Liverpool were linked with Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi earlier this summer but failed to make that deal happen.
