Tottenham Hotspur Add Extra Forward Talent to Already Impressive Roster

The news around 19-year-old Odobert’s move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium came out of the blue this afternoon (August 16), with Fabrizio Romano and Spurs’ official account tweeting about the completion of the transfer, with no outlets or journalists reporting any rumours prior.

Romano revealed that Odobert, who scored one of the Clarets’ four goals against Luton Town on Monday evening in their opening Championship fixture, had been attracting interest from teams in England and Italy. The winger ultimately chose to sign for Ange Postecoglou’s side in a deal worth £25 million with £5 million in add-ons, a sum described as an “important fee” by the Italian journalist.

Odobert’s arrival now means that Spurs have added the Frenchman to an attacking cohort of Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-Min Son, Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke, Richarlison and Mikey Moore, who has recently signed his first professional contract with the club after showcasing his talents for the academy.

Extra Attacking Depth Crucial for What Is Set to Be a Busy Season

Spurs finishing 5th in the league last season meant they qualified for the Europa League, with 2024/25 set to be their first venture into the competition since 2020/21 when they reached the Round of 16.

European football always brings a hectic schedule for teams and with the change in Champions League and Europa League formats from this season, games will be coming thicker and faster than ever before. With the competitions set to take on a new league format, clubs will play eight matches in the opening phase, with the potential for eight more games before the final depending on their league positions.

This drastic switch-up from UEFA means that squad depth will be even more important compared to previous seasons, with teams in Europe now likely to play between 60 and 70 matches in all competitions, so the signing of Odobert is a huge coup for Spurs in a department where difference-makers will be crucial.
