Liverpool are closing in on the transfer of Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, having agreed personal terms. The Reds see him as a long-term replacement for Alisson, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Liverpool Looking To Sign Giorgi Mamardashvili From Valencia
No Agreement Yet For Mamardashvili
Liverpool are still in talks to sign Mamardashvili and have sent agents to Valencia to push negotiations through. The Georgian impressed with his performances at Euro 2024, where he was integral to his country’s surprise run to the last 16.
Now that personal terms are no longer an issue, the Reds are confident that a move can be finalised. Valencia value the player at approximately £35 million.

Mamardashvili is open to spending a couple of seasons on loan, with Bournemouth interested in signing him. He will gain vital match experience, rather than deputising for Alisson, who is one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
The Reds must begin planning for the long-term, however. Current number-two goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is linked with a move away from Anfield, leaving Liverpool lacking in senior options in goal.
What Will Mamardashvili Bring To Liverpool?
Mamardashvili has already proven himself at the top level with his star performances at Euro 2024. Furthermore, he has started in all but one of Valencia’s league matches over the last two campaigns. This showcases his ability to perform at the top level, despite his age.
It is unlikely that fans will see the 22-year-old regularly at Anfield in the near future. Alisson is still very much in his prime so opportunities will be scarce. However, the Brazilian is 31, so Liverpool are eager to prepare for the future.

Despite his height, the Georgiam is surprisingly agile. He can dominate the penalty area and use his strength to catch high balls and is in the 86th percentile for stopping crosses amongst goalkeepers in Europe’s top five leagues.
He was a bright spark in a leaky Valencia defence. The Georgian prevented more goals than any other goalkeeper in the league and kept the third-most clean sheets.
Should this transfer go through, it could lead to the departure of Kelleher. The Irish goalkeeper has spoken about being a first-choice player soon. He performed admirably in domestic cups and during Alisson’s absence, so will recuperate a decent fee.
