'At Carrington': Manchester United Hoping to Execute Ambitious Transfer Plan Before Fulham Clash

Manchester United are preparing to kick off their 2024/25 Premier League campaign in compelling fashion with a win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday (August 16). It appears that they are keen on completing the signings of Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui before that particular match.

How Close Are Bayern Munich Duo to Completing United Transfers?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that both de Ligt and Mazraoui are undergoing their medical tests “at Carrington” training facility today (August 12) before they can proceed with completing their transfers to the Red Devils. They will need to successfully pass the tests before moving forward with signing their contracts to the deals over the line.

Romano also states that United want both the defenders available for their Premier League opener against Fulham. Erik ten Hag appears to be eager to use them as soon as possible and slot them right into his team after having already worked with both players during his time as Ajax manager. De Ligt might be rushed into the starting lineup due to the injury to Leny Yoro, to play alongside Lisandro Martinez. Mazraoui is being brought aboard as the replacement of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is also reportedly close to a move to West Ham United.

What Will Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui Bring to United?

The Red Devils are poised to rope in two defenders whom ten Hag knows how to utilise pretty well. The Dutchman was actually the one who gave de Ligt his major breakthrough at Ajax and even made him the club’s youngest-ever captain in 2018. The centre-back helped his side win the 2018/19 Eredivisie title and also guided them to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League that season, defeating the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid on the way.

De Ligt will arrive at Old Trafford with a lot of experience, having won league titles in his home country, in Italy and in Germany. He is a proactive, quick defender with plenty of leadership qualities. Mazraoui has also played under ten Hag for four years at Ajax, winning three Eredivisie titles under his guidance. The Moroccan defender can play as a right-back and left-back, which should make him a versatile asset for United. However, the two defenders will need to be quick in adapting to their new environment at Old Trafford to start the new campaign strongly for United and help them maintain a solid defensive record this season.
