RB Leipzig Set To Bring Xavi Simons Chase to an End
On the evening of July 28, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Leipzig were extremely confident about securing a deal for the 21-year-old attacker, with the club’s CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said to be the driving force behind the transfer.

Romano also stated that Bayern Munich were lurking in the background should Leipzig and PSG not reach an agreement, however this morning (July 29), he reported that it is now only a matter of time before Simons’ move back to Germany for another year is confirmed, a huge coup for Leipzig manager Marco Rose.
The Red Bull owned club have been “clear favourites” for the last ten days, and the transfer will happen this week. It is simply another loan move, with no buy-option included. The Ligue 1 winners only ever considered a loan for Simons this summer, with the potential for a sale in a year’s time.
Dutchman Proving His Worth Out on Loan
2024/25 will be Simons’ third season out on loan from PSG, with many fans confused as to why the French champions have been so reticent to let the youngster leave temporarily once again, considering the talent he possesses.
His time with PSV during the 2022/23 season was just the start of his footballing rise, as he scored 22 times and notched 12 assists in all competitions, 19 of those 22 goals coming in the league.

Simons had no issues transferring his skills and form to the Bundesliga in 2023/24, with his ten goals and 15 assists in all competitions for Leipzig earning him a spot in his nation’s squad for Euro 2024.
What Could Another Strong Season on Loan Mean for Xavi Simons?
59 goal contributions in the past two seasons is an impressive tally for any player, let alone for a 21-year-old, and PSG should be worried if Simons has another stellar season in Germany. The player hasn’t featured for his parent club since April 2022 and the way in which his future has been reported in the recent weeks and months, there doesn’t seem to be any path back to the Parc des Princes for the €80 million-rated man.
With Kylian Mbappe departing for Real Madrid and Ousmane Dembele failing to live up to the hype that continues to surround him, the integration of Simons into Luis Enrique’s side would no doubt elevate PSG to another level. But, as the French side look to be content with shipping him out for the third season running, the chances that he returns to the club in 2025/26 to make a name for himself seem unlikely, meaning several European heavyweights should be on alert in case they can snap up one of the continent’s brightest talents next summer.
