Fabrizio Romano has reported that the club from the Italian capital are ready to submit a sizeable bid of €35,000,000 to Girona to secure the services of Artem Dovbyk. The 27-year-old has been attracting attention all summer, coming off the back of a stellar season in La Liga. The former Dnipro forward struck 24 times, helping to fire Girona to a Champions League place.

Atletico Madrid Show Their Hand First
Atletico Madrid were credited with interest in Dovbyk just last week, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that they were “closing in on a deal”. The Colchoneros’s plan was to build a payment package that matched the €40,000,000 release clause inserted in his contract. Personal terms were deemed to not be an issue with the LaLiga top scorer having “already agreed on personal terms” as he is “ready to move”.

While it appears Dovbyk will end up in a capital city, he may be rejecting Madrid for Rome.
The Emergence of Roma’s Interest
Alex Lundovsky, Dovbyk’s agent, has come out and said “Atletico Madrid is a great club, but we didn’t see a serious project for Artem there…their offer is significantly lower in financial terms compared to other offers”.

It appears that the pull of Danielle de Rossi had an effect on the deal, with the tide being turned in Roma’s favour following talks with their second-highest appearance maker and the Giallorossi’s board. Atletico Madrid now appear to be out of the deal entirely, with the full focus of Dovbyk now being sealing his move to Italy.
The most recent report on the deal from Romano states that the Ukrainian international has agreed on a five-year deal. Personal terms aren’t expected to be an issue, however, Romano did say that it was “now up to the clubs”. As mentioned above, Roma are preparing their first bid, with it being €5,000,000 below the reported release clause, and there is an expectation that there will have to be negotiations this week in order to find a common ground in terms of value.
What Could Dovbyk Bring to Danielle de Rossi’s Side?
Roma aren’t short of attacking quality: Paolo Dybala, Tammy Abraham, and Eldor Shomurdov are all strong candidates to be in the starting line-up. However, given one of Dovbyk’s key reasons for choosing the Europa League semi-finalists was the project set out for him, he will be expecting to start. As a result, Roma fans may be looking at their new star striker.

The “breakout” striker will have a heavy expectation on his shoulders, with a price tag of around €40,000,000 on his head, and the necessity to replace the goals that Romelu Lukaku scored during his temporary stay last season.
