Gareth Southgate Makes ‘Shock Switch’: England Predicted Lineup Vs Switzerland

England Predicted Lineup

England play Switzerland in the Euro 2024 Quarter-Finals. The match takes place on July 6 from the Düsseldorf Arena, the home ground of  Fortuna Düsseldorf. Here is our England predicted lineup.

England Predicted Lineup vs Switzerland in Quarter-Final Clash

How England Have Lined-up Recently

Jordan Pickford has been, as ever, the starting goalkeeper. Kyle Walker has played at right-back with Kieran Trippier at left-back. Marc Guehi has partnered John Stones at centre-back.

Kobbie Mainoo started alongside Declan Rice for the first time this tournament against Slovakia. Jude Bellingham has played in the number ten role.

Phil Foden has played on the left-wing with Bukayo Saka on the right, and Harry Kane has played up front.

England’s Recent Form

England continued a string of unconvincing group stage performances as they scraped past Slovakia in the Round of 16.

It looked all but certain that the Three Lions would be crashing out of another major tournament as their opponents led 1-0 from the 25th minute. With the last kick of the game, Bellingham produced a moment of magic with an audacious overhead kick to equalise.

Gareth Southgate’s side opened extra-time with a quick goal by Kane to win the tie. Whilst Slovakia dominated the remainder of the match, England’s defence was tight and (bar one big chance for Peter Pekarik) the team got across the line fairly easily.

This team will not defeat Switzerland in the quarter-finals if they continue to play with the same level of intensity and quality.

For all their faults, there were some positive substitutions. Eberechi Eze came on in the 84th minute and progressed the ball well, and quickly. Ivan Toney’s 94th-minute introduction came just before both goals and it seemed that the two-striker system may have worked.

England Injuries and Suspensions to Consider

Luke Shaw is still injured and it doesn’t seem like he is returning anytime soon. It may have been a mistake including him in the 26-man squad over a fit left-back.

Guehi is suspended for this fixture after accumulating two yellow cards across the tournament. There are rumours that this may lead to a “shock switch” with a three-at-the-back approach.
