Euro 2024: Looking at How Many Points Third-Place Finishers Need to Advance

Germany is set to face Spain in the highlight game of the Euro 2024 quarter-finals. In what feels like a premature final, the Mannschaft will look to edge out Spain, who are the bookies’ favourites for the trophy after winning all four of their games so far. Here is Last Word on Football’s Germany predicted lineup for the upcoming match.

Germany Predicted Lineup vs. Spain

How Germany Have Lined up Recently

Germany started all three of their group-stage games with the same lineup. However, Julian Nagelsmann made three changes against Denmark in the last-16 round.

Jonathan Tah, who missed the game with a yellow-card suspension, was replaced by Nico Schlotterbeck. The Borussia Dortmund star had a fantastic performance against Denmark, earning praise from Manuel Neuer, who picked him as the game’s “secret MVP”.

A second change in the defence line was David Raum’s start ahead of Maximilian Mittelstädt. Despite his solid displays in the group stage, the Stuttgart defender was benched, allowing Germany to capitalize on Raum’s attacking instincts on the right-hand side of the pitch.

The final change was Florian Wirtz’s omission from the lineup, which saw Leroy Sane make his first start in the Euros. However, the Bayern Munich winger struggled to properly link up with other Mannschaft forwards, ending the game without a single shot.

Germany Recent Form and Tactics

The Mannschaft started the fixture against Denmark on a brilliant note, putting their opponents under immense pressure early on. They even scored a goal through Schlotterbeck, which was controversially disallowed by Michael Oliver.

However, Germany nearly fell behind when Denmark scored a disallowed goal themselves at the beginning of the second period. The hosts immediately bounced back by scoring a penalty through Kai Havertz.

They went on to secure their victory when Jamal Musiala beat Kaspar Schmeichel one-on-one, scoring his third game in the tournament with a precise low shot.

Nagelsmann’s side ended their last-16 clash against Denmark with a clean sheet. However, defensive issues remain their biggest concern ahead of facing one of the tournament’s best-attacking lines this Friday.

Germany Injuries to Consider

The hosts have stayed clear of injuries so far in the tournament, with Antonio Rudiger and Neuer overcoming minor knocks.

Tah, who served a one-game ban against Denmark, will return to the squad for the quarter-finals. However, three other German stars are at risk of suspension if they receive a yellow card in the upcoming game: Rudiger, Robert Andrich, and Mittelstädt.
