A Career in La Liga

Lokonga is about to finalize a transfer to Sevilla as he looks to bring his stint at Arsenal to an end. It is a potential loan move that could be made permanent in the future. According to Fabrizio Romano, both parties are currently locked in negotiations hoping to reach a consensus on the value of the buy clause.

The player has reportedly indicated his willingness to shift his career to Spain. And the Gunners seem content with selling the former Anderlecht star as they look to raise funds for new signings.

Discussions were held between the midfielder and Arsenal in May 2024, and it was decided a sale would suit all parties. Speaking to VOO Sport, he said:My time at Arsenal is slowly coming to the end, I think so. I had a discussion with the club and what was said is that the best solution for me was to leave.”

Lokonga Can Elevate the Sevilla Midfield

The 24-year-old joined Arsenal when the club was in dire straits and the entire team was struggling for form. So, it was no surprise that Lokonga failed to reach high standards. But the potential always existed and was on display during his time away from North London.

Lokonga went through two successive loan spells, initially at Crystal Palace and then at Luton Town. His impressive performances at the latter club earned the admiration of former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who was surprised by Arsenal’s decision to send the Belgian out on loan. He said:Lokonga, when you see him playing and you think, oh – he’s an Arsenal player and they loaned him? Interesting.”

Despite an encouraging spell with Luton, he has failed to win the trust of Mikel Arteta. But Sevilla could benefit from this if a transfer materializes as they will be adding an immensely talented player to their squad.
