Man Utd Told Formidable Asking Price For Ace Defender ‘Erik ten Hag Would Like To Bring’ In

Erik ten Hag provides touchline instructions to his team

Manchester United have not yet been able to secure any signing or fulfil their desire to strengthen the squad before the beginning of the 2024/25 season. It appears that they have been told how much needs to be paid for them to go proceed with their interest in Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.

How Much Will United Need To Pay For De Ligt?

German outlet Bild’s Christian Falk has revealed that “Erik ten Hag would like to bring” the Dutch defender to Old Trafford next season. The Red Devils are looking for defensive reinforcements after confirming the departure of Raphael Varane as a free agent once his contract expires at the end of June (2024).

But it appears that the German heavyweights are not going to budge and give away their young centre-back for cheap. Falk indicates that Manchester United have to be ready to pay a fee of around £60 million to sign the 25-year-old this summer. The Red Devils, though, have made it clear that they will only be willing to pay half of that (around £30 million) and are refusing to meet Bayern’s overwhelming demands for a transfer.

Which Other Players Have United Been Linked With?

De Ligt is not the only centre-back being eyed by the Premier League heavyweights. That is because Ten Hag’s side have also been strongly linked to having an interest in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, but his overwhelming transfer demands are making a deal difficult to confirm.

The Red Devils have reportedly also made contact with Ligue 1 side Lille over the possibility of signing their young defender Leny Yoro, but face a fight from Liverpool for his services.

It seems that if United want to sign a quality defender like De Ligt, then they’ll have to pay a premium fee. The 24-year-old centre-back is already vastly experienced, having played in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals multiple times in his career.

The Dutchman has enjoyed success with Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich and won league titles in all three countries. He made 30 appearances for the Bavarians last season, helping them keep 10 clean sheets across all competitions.

He worked under Ten Hag at Ajax and the coach definitely knows how to get the best out of him. However, it’ll be tough for the Red Devils to sign De Ligt because of Bayern’s demands, and both sides must meet common ground for the deal to go through.
