How Luton Town’s Squad Is Shaping up Ahead of the 2024-25 Season

The latest Luton Town weekly round-up includes news of a player and coach leaving Kenilworth Road. A Hatters goalkeeper has gone back out on loan and next season’s Championship fixtures have been revealed.

Luton Town Weekly Round Up – Two Departures, Goalkeeper Loaned Out

Hull City Sign Ryan Giles

Left wing-back Ryan Giles, who was loaned out by Luton to Hull City midway through last season, has joined the Tigers on a permanent deal. Signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £5m, Giles began his first season with the Hatters in the Premier League as the first-choice left wing-back, but later lost his place to Alfie Doughty.

McCormack Departs

Luton Town coach Alan McCormack has left the club to join Leyton Orient. McCormack will become assistant coach to O’s boss Richie Wellens.

McCormack had a distinguished playing career at the Hatters before becoming a coach at the club. He was a key figure in Luton’s League Two and League One promotion-winning campaign in his two seasons as a Town player. He then left for Northampton Town in 2019, before being offered a coaching job at Kenilworth Road in 2021.

Last year, McCormack was appointed set piece coach at Kenilworth Road for the club’s first season in the Premier League. He had been promoted after working with the Hatters youngsters in the academy. As a youth coach at Luton, McCormack steered the Town youngsters to two titles. The EFL Youth Alliance South-East Division and Merit Youth League 1 titles are his two big achievements.

Walton Goes Back To Dundee United – Will Face Hatters In Pre-Season Friendly

Goalkeeper Jack Walton has rejoined Dundee United on a second successive season-long loan. Walton had a very successful season at Tannadice, where he kept 19 clean sheets, and helped the Tangerines win the Scottish Championship title.

Walton will come up against his parent club in a pre-season friendly in Scotland in late July.

Burnley And Portsmouth Town’s First Opponents

Luton will start their 2024-25 campaign back in the Championship at home to Burnley on August 12th. The Hatters were promoted and then relegated alongside the Clarets at the end of the previous two seasons. The Town’s second game of the new season will be five days later against Championship new boys Portsmouth at Fratton Park, who are fresh from impressively winning the League One title.

Port Vale Friendly Arranged

A pre-season friendly against League Two side Port Vale was arranged this week. The game will be at Vale Park on July 30th, with the Hatters sending a squad of under-21 and first-team players. As several youngsters are already on the fringes of the Hatters first team this game will allow them – to enhance their first-team hopes.
