While it is never quiet at Chelsea this summer has already been a massive whirlwind for the fanbase. This is spurred on by the fact that both the men’s and women’s teams are stocking up on players to fit the systems of new managers Enzo Maresca and Sonia Bompastor respectively.

Chelsea Transfer Flurry to Start Summer Window

Men’s Team

While the Euro’s usually halts transfer activity for a brief moment, the Blues have been as busy as ever this window. Not only are there consistent links to new player but they have already got some deals over the line. Tosin Adarbioyo was picked up on a free from Fulham while Estevao has officially been announced and will join next summer.

On top of the moves already made, they are reportedly closing in on young striker Marc Guiu, as well as Omari Kellyman, and Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors. These aren’t the only players to be linked with a move to London but they appear to be closest to fruition. Chelsea’s name has been thrown out there with links to a number of young players, usually younger stars who benefit the long term project.

It isn’t only incoming where they have been busy as there’s lots of noise about potential outgoings. Omari Hutchinson, Ian Maatsen, and some others could be on the way out as the team tries to stay on the good side of PSR to continue stocking up with talent.

Some moves are likely to move on from players that don’t fit the vision while others could be surprising moves for players who fit into Maresca’s system. While there’s no way of knowing just yet, it’s easy to expect the Italian to stick with the formation and tactical setup that got him success at Leicester.

Women’s Team

With Emma Hayes leaving after a long and successful tenure, there was always going to be turnover. It began with veterans Fran Kirby, Maren Mjelde, and Ann-Katrin Berger all departing. Rumours have now sparked up that 30-year-old midfielder Melanie Leupolz could be on her way to Real Madrid as well.

With a switch from Hayes and her relatively fluid management style which saw her use a 4-3-3/4-4-2/4-2-3-1 and even a 5-3-2 during the latest term to the more rigid Bompastor there are some signings in the works to fit her needs a bit more.

20-year-old Barcelona midfielder Julia Bartel announced her departure from the team amidst rumours of a move to the Blues. The new manager likes to use a very specific profile in the DM spot of her 4-3-3 which would explain the links to Oraine Jean-Francois from PSG. Also one for the new manager is Francois’ teammate, attacker Sandy Baltimore. The 24-year-old can play out wide and would provide some competition in that spot.

While the men’s squad has been full of movement recently, the women’s team is also coming to life under a new coach. Old favourites might move on for more game time while the club refocuses on some younger players who fit their new manager’s tactics.
