England Predicted Lineup

England play Slovenia in their final group-stage fixture of Euro 2024. The match will take place on June 25 from the Cologne Stadium. This is our England predicted lineup.

How England Have Lined-up Recently

England have had identical lineups in their opening two matches. Jordan Pickford has started in goal with Kyle Walker at right-back and Kieran Trippier filling in at left-back. Marc Guehi and John Stones have formed an effective centre-back partnership.

Declan Rice has been partnered by Trent Alexander-Arnold in central midfield, whilst Jude Bellingham has started as the ten. Phil Foden has been the left-winger with Bukayo Saka on the right, and Harry Kane the striker and captain.

England’s Recent Form and Tactics

England have had a slow start to the tournament, despite starting their games quickly: they scored within 20 minutes of both games but failed to score a second in either. This was due to a largely passive and defensive style of play.

Against Serbia, this secured Gareth Southgate all three points; key players Aleksander Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic struggled to get into the game. However, the Danes responded swiftly enough – scoring in the 34th minute. Morten Hjulmand was given far too much space by England’s disorganised midfield.

Playing Alexander-Arnold in the midfield has not worked. He was substituted off in the 69th minute against Serbia and in the 54th against Denmark. It seems that shoehorning him into the side has harmed the system: he often misplaced short passes and wasn’t given the licence to spray long balls like he normally does.

It would not be surprising to see the “world-class” player benched against Slovenia. Despite Adam Wharton and Kobbie Mainoo impressing in warm-up matches, Conor Gallagher has played the most minutes off the bench this tournament with 57. Mainoo has played just four and Wharton zero.

England Injuries to Consider

Luke Shaw is the only injury in the current squad. He was in first-team training prior to the tournament and was on the bench for the opener. However, he was absent from the squad against Denmark and has since been training indoors rather than outdoors with the rest of the team. It seems that he will not return before the knockout stages.
