Why Are Chelsea Leading Pursuit For Barcelona Forward Guiu?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Blues are now actually ahead of German heavyweights Bayern Munich in the race to sign the young Spaniard in the summer transfer window. He cites this is because Chelsea “presented specific project” to Guiu detailing his long-term role in the team and how they aim to develop him into a top-class forward.

The journalist also adds that the London heavyweights have already sent the contract proposal to the Barcelona man and that he will not be loaned out to Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg either. The Blues want to pay the 18-year-old’s £5 million release clause as soon as possible in an attempt to sign him quickly and stave off interest from other clubs. This also comes after they confirmed the signing of talented Brazilian winger Estevao aka Messinho from Palmeiras.

According to a source in Spain, the player has already decided to “pack his bags” and will be leaving for England.

What Will Chelsea Get In Marc Guiu?

Guiu enjoyed his breakthrough season with Barcelona in the 2023/24 campaign and produced a number of impressive performances to garner the interest of other clubs. He scored two goals in seven appearances for the La Liga heavyweights’ senior team and even became the youngest player to score on his debut for Barcelona in their 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao last season.

The 18-year-old has been hailed as a “monster” forward for his admirable performances at the youth level for the Spanish heavyweights. He has scored six goals and provided four assists for Barcelona Athletic, their reserve sid,  and even scored in the UEFA Champions League against Royal Antwerp last season. The Blues are trying their best to sign the teenager as soon as possible to stop a team like Bayern Munich from hijacking the deal instead.
